CineMaryland, in partnership with Howard Community College Television, just released their latest sports program which featured the Sandra Bullock and Michael Oher Academy Award-winning movie, The Blind Side;  Barry Levinson's documentary tribute to the Baltimore Colt marching band, The Band That Wouldn't Die;  a section on Len Bias, the University of Maryland basketball star who tragically died just before going into professional basketball; and The Forgotten Birds documentary.

The entire show is almost 30 minutes in length and is being shown on many Maryland cable channels over the next few months.  We have excerpted the Forgotten Birds segment which you can download and view by clicking here.

WCBM Radio host Dr. Bob Hieronimus interviewed Jimmy Keenan and Paul Sekulich on his 2-Hour, 21st Century Radio Show this past March 7th, 2010.  The first hour dealt with The Forgotten Birds DVD and Dr. Bob's review of the documentary as well as questions posed to Jimmy and Paul regarding the making of the movie.

The show's second hour was dedicated to discussing Jimmy Keenan's recent book, The Lystons: A Story of One Baltimore Family and Our National Pastime.  Jimmy fielded numerous questions about the writing of his book that chronicles his famous, professional baseball family over several generations, which included his beloved grandfather, Jimmy Lyston, who was a key player for the champion International League Baltimore Orioles of the 1920s.

The year was 1903.  It was the beginning of a baseball dynasty in Baltimore, Maryland, and for the next 50 years it would set the stage for the coming of Major League sports to the most enthusiastic and fan-rich city in America.

Some of the greatest players that ever suited-up were on the rosters of the International League Orioles (ILO) during this formative era in professional baseball.

They had championship teams in 1908, 1919, 1920, 1921, 1922, 1923, 1924, 1925 and 1944.

Players included such names as Babe Ruth, Lefty Grove, Sherman Lollar, Eddie Robinson, Fritz Maisel, Bob Lemon, Max Bishop, Jimmy Lyston, Jack Dunn, Tommy Thomas, Mike Kardash, Gene Corbett, Cliff Melton, Arthur Egan, Howie Moss, Bucky Crouse and many, many more.
